18 july 2006 rabbits, stillness, duckweed, insect, people

21:29 viaduct pond seat... darkening sky, without clouds, after a day too hot for me to go out... while keeping cool behind sun blinds i have been attempting to start making an open access archive of my papers and digital writings...

...about a dozen rabbits are grazing here, as they are every evening... and now they run for cover, there must be people about... yes, i can hear voices...

...and now the rabbits have moved nearer to this seat... they are eating , continuously...

...i am much enjoying the stillness of the heath, when most people have left, and when there is little or no wind... but i decide to move (i don't like walking across the heath in complete darkness)...

...i zip up my bag and the unfamiliar sound sends the rabbits running away...

...i pass the viaduct pond and see that most of the duckweed has been removed from the water surface and is now dumped on the dam... some of the water lily plants have survived...

i wonder if the man i saw gazing at the (algae or) duckweed will read this account of what happened? If he visits this website i send him good wishes.

...as i edit this page on the desktop computer a large mosquito-like insect with green thorax and transparent wings lands on the paragraph above this one and doesn't fly away when i put my hand close to it... is it held there, perhaps by static electricity?... now it is waving its feelers and turns and moves a little...

...i bring my hand near again and i see that it is still able to fly away... i suppose it's time to close the windows - i've been letting night air in to cool the flat before the high temperature forecast for tomorrow - i read somewhere that it may exceed that of the hot summer of July 1911...
