10 may 2011 coincidences

at sunset

...already slight fading of the light as i look around and listen... repetitive beat in distance... sound of aircraft moving away from this spot... light blue sky with a few fluffy clouds towards the horizon...

...tall stalks of ferns growing straight up from fallen fragments of last season's growth... like a miniature pre-historic forest... a blackbird... perhaps the one i saw here some days ago... one of a pair... (there seem to be more blackbirds about this year)...

...walked about a kilometre to a seat with wide view of the horizon... seen through misty air and beneath bands of smooth blue grey clouds... beneath palest pink sky... becoming yellow, then pale blue, overhead...

...two people (with dogs) at edges of playing fields... and roofs, windows, domes, and steeples of the garden suburb (prototype i believe of the majority of less congenial suburbs built all over Britain after this precedent... and other such experiments in combining garden and city)... and above this seat the fringes of an oak tree framing the view as if we were in an 18th century landscape painting... prototype of similarly framed off-centre views seen through viewfinders of millions of cameras thereafter...

...the scene is now empty of people and i am here alone with a single bird standing on the grass and another one singing jerkily on a tree to my west...

...noticing how peaceful i feel in this ambience of trees and mown grass and the distant suburban village beneath a half-hidden sunset... i stay to watch the clouds change their forms... almost imperceptibly... as lights are switched on and the settting sun is directly shining through trees to the north west... no, it's not the sun, it's a bright yellow sodium street light seen through summer leaves and branches...

p.s.
...after the walk i was the only passenger in a bus which took me all the way home without stopping... a coincidence which i'd never before experienced... i suppose there are similar coincidences happening all round us... though we do not, or cannot, notice...
