8 october 2017 enacting motions of the planets
the ground is almost covered with fallen leaves... a dog's bark breaks
the silence... as do the sounds of distant voices... this is the spot
where jones family picnicked (in was it 1975?) with Ed Schlossberg after
making a film in which we performed the motions of earth moon sun and
planets on a nearby field to Ed's instructions... which enabled us to learn
from direct experience the physical forces that keep the planets earth
and moon in motion... quite a revelation!
...and now... on this same piece of earth in apparent stillness... as i
write this account... two people with three large black dogs are
throwing sticks into the water for the dogs to obediently retrieve...
and then to shake themselves free of water with violent rotary motions
possible for dogs but not i think for humans...
...and now today i
rather sadly see from this
memory (of that most informative experiment with Ed) that we failed to
continue after his departure a new kind of
life experiment that could still transform our lives... a way of
living
in reality beyond the local thought limits imposed by the prevailing
culture...
...for instance i remember how recently Louise revealed that she and the
others who took part in the performing of 'the planets' film were in dread of
being seen by any of their schoolmates while performing such wierd or inexplicable movements...
...at this i paused to rethink the
many and quite wonderful implications of this educational experiment (or
work of social art)... that even now this could be my next
endeavour ... at least as fiction or description or renewed film
making...
...unfinished and in delayed progress since the 1970s... but now perhaps
to be resumed... if not as completed films then as a filmscript...
